Kingdom Housing Association

Ashley XL's with M.A. Training

Saving money on stationery and streamlining inventory systems are just two of the benefits Ashley Fyfe has brought to her employers Kingdom Housing since undergoing her Modern Apprenticeship programme in administration.
Ashley, an administration assistant, embarked on the MA programme through Dunfermline-based XL Training and her career prospects with the housing association have never been better.

The programme involved Ashley reviewing the working practices at Kingdom and highlighting areas for improvement. Many of her recommendations have already been taken on board including tighter control of office resources by streamlining documentation and developing recording systems. She also identified recurring problems and further training needed by colleagues as well as carrying out a comparative analysis of Kingdom’s marketing.

"I thoroughly enjoyed carrying out the work for my (MA) portfolio and gained confidence on my own ability as I suggested ideas and recommended these to my line manager." said Ashley. "Many of these recommendations were approved and implemented into the company's working practices. The challenge of the qualification has developed my confidence and determination to undertake further qualifications. My goal is to eventually become an office manager."

Said Anne Rodger, partner in XL Training: “Ashley has an extremely positive attitude and has tackled the vocational training with bags of enthusiasm. This was recognised with the award of a City & Guilds Medal of Excellence when she completed her MA programme. Not only has it been great for her personal and career development but her employer has seen many tangible benefits including savings in physical resources and making procedures and practices more efficient. Ashley has a bright future ahead of her as she gains in experience and further training.

A.J. Winski Jewellers

Jewellers Improve Business Management thanks to Andrew's MA

Andrew Winski recently celebrated achieving his Modern Apprenticeship in customer services and retail at his family-owned jewellery shop, A.J. Winski Jewellers in Dunfermline.

Andrew (21) is a trainee jeweller at the shop run by his parents Adam and Jacqueline. He embarked on his Modern Apprenticeship programme recently through Dunfermline-based vocational training company XL Training.

As a result of the work on his MA he has introduced several improvements to the way the shop is run. This included a customer survey which discovered that many clients were not aware of the full range of products and services, such as specialist jewellery repairs. As a result he has implemented a new advertising campaign and customer bulletin boards listing all the things that Winski Jewellers can offer. He has also re-organised the workroom with new equipment and improved the display lighting in the shop so customers can see the quality of the jewellery more clearly. Andrew also introduced a repairs planning system to schedule time spent on repairs in a more organised fashion.

"Doing the MA has been absolutely fantastic. It is not just a qualification but a learning process which has inspired me with lots of new ideas for improvements to the shop such as the bulletin boards and promotional activities," said Andrew. "The support from XL has been great. They have made sure I kept on track with the documentation and helped me with any problems."

Said Jacqueline Winski: "We have seen a definite increase in business as a result of Andrew's improvements. It transpired that many customers were not aware of all the services we could offer so it was great that Andrew's survey brought this to light and he made several recommendations on how this could be addressed. Doing the MA has been brilliant for both the business and Andrew."
